Best Dressed at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards

Billboard is a music popularity chart that spans across the entire music business. On Sunday, May 17, 2015 in Las Vegas, NV the 2015 Billboard Music Awards was aired. The show was hosted by John Legend’s stunning wife, Chrissy Tiegen,  and rapper/actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges.

The Billboard Awards were somewhat lack luster as far as entertainment goes and the same can be said for the fashion. A few great ensembles and the rest were just average. Here’s a look at some of my favorite looks from the night, in no particular order.

1. Zendaya in Fausto Puglisi 3-piece set

Zendaya is quickly becoming a regular on best dressed lists and it was no different at this years BMA’s. She stunned on the red carpet in a black, white and orange 3-piece Fausto Puglisi set. She brought the gorgeous bandeau, pant and blazer set to a higher level with a baby blue heel pairing.

2. Jennifer Lopez in Charbel Zoe

The Queen of nearly-naked gowns wowed us again on the red carpet last night. The sleeved, silver gown with strategically placed bead work showed off her amazing physique without being trashy.

3. Olivia Culpo in Elie Saab

The former Miss USA looked beautiful in a black beaded shorts romper. Culpo styled the romper with a thin black belt and gorgeous strappy heels.

4. Taylor Swift in Balmain

We all know I LIVE for an all white outfit and Taylor Swift’s stunning Balmain pantsuit is no exception. With tasteful cutouts and the trendy wide leg style, she absolutely stole the show. Even before she took home 8 awards!

Taraji P. Henson, star of the hit series Empire , turned some heads in her black Aleandre Vauthier cutout gown. She certainly filled the dress out much better than Miley Cyrus, who wore it early this year to the 2015 Grammys, and she exuded such confidence but, in my opinion the dress just isn’t that spectacular.

All in all, the BMA’s can be summed up like this: J.Lo never disappoints us in the fashion department, Chrissy Tiegen and Ludacris were okay hosts and Taylor Swift stole the show with her video premiere for “Bad Blood,” her fierce jumpsuit and her 8 award wins!

72nd Annual Golden Globes: Fashion Recap

This past week while I was watching the NFL Playoffs, I’m sure many of y’all were tuned into the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards.

For those who don’t know, the Golden Globe Awards are given to recognize those hard working Hollywood folks for excellence in film and television. While I enjoy award shows, I watch for the FASHION and the ladies on the red carpet looked amazing this year!

Kate Hudson in Versace

Now I LIVE for an amazing white gown so, I’m quite critical of any white dress I come across. Kate Hudson STUNNED in the figure hugging Versace ensemble with side cutouts and jeweled straps. She decided to go with sleek hair and no fuss makeup and the mother of two looked absolutely amazing. Best Dressed. Hands down.

Lorde in Narciso Rodriguez

Lorde is a funky, cool kinda girl so, her custom suit and crop top was almost predictable but, nonetheless gorgeous. She opted for less dramatic makeup and even pulled out the red lipstick paired with beautiful Neil Lane diamonds, she definitely earns a spot on the best dressed list.

Kate Beckinsale in Elie Saab Couture

Kate, a presenter for the night, wowed in a sparkly Elie Saab Fall 2013 Couture Collection piece. The sparkly bodice with flowing skirt was complimented by a high bun and beautifully minimal makeup. It’s a gorgeous dress but, the styling and Kate’s gorgeous smile is what earned her a spot on the best dressed list.

As many stunning ensembles as there were on the red carpet, there were also some tragedies. I will not highlight them all but, one gown stood out to me. Keira Knightley in Chanel. When Knightley spoke to Ryan Seacrest, she was quoted saying, “Apparently, it took 30 people to make this dress in a week.” Now, for a dress by Chanel, made by 30 people in a week, how is this an acceptable finished product? The floor length dress has layers of white lace around the hem and the neckline and the middle of the dress is printed with butterflies and bugs. Being pregnant is not an excuse to wear this dress out in public. Try again.

Oscar De la Renta: A Fashion Icon Gone

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

A fashion icon. A fashion legend. According to an article on cnn.com, often described as the “sultan of suave,” Oscar De La Renta died Monday, October 20, 2014, at age 82. He dressed Hollywood stars, multiple American first ladies including, most recently, Michelle Obama and, Amal Alamuddin, who wore an Oscar de la Renta- designed wedding gown when she married George Clooney.

He was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and was the only male of seven children. He studied abstract art at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid and discovered his passion was fashion. Early on in his career, he was blessed to work at an apprenticeship with Cristobal Balenciaga and the legendary couture house of Lanvin in France. By the mid-1960s, he was in New York City working for Elizabeth Arden couture and in 1965, he launched his own label.

De la Renta is known for creating beautiful eveningwear, exquisite embroidery work and rich colors. A few notable gowns include the pink feathered dress worn by Sarah Jessica Parker to the 2000 Emmy Awards when she was nominated for her role in “Sex in the City,” a navy silk dress Oprah Winfrey wore at the 2010 Met Ball and my favorite, a fiery red, floral embroidered gown Tina Fey wore to the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

De la Renta leaves behind his second wife and a son.

‘Scandal’ Inspired Clothing Collection

ABC’s hit show, Scandal, is known for exciting drama, crazy plot twists and now, a clothing line inspired by one of the show’s main characters, Olivia Pope.

As a HUGE fan of the show and especially a fan of Olivia Pope’s outfits, I was ecstatic to find out about the collaboration between star, Kerry Washington, the show’s costume designer, Lyn Paolo and The Limited’s main designer, Elliot Staples.

According to the ET Online fashion page, the 42- piece collection includes Olivia Pope staples such as neutral color palette and mixture of classic blouses, chic coats and tailored pants.

Check out the collection here!
