SI: Swimsuit Issue 2016

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue has been an annual staple for the magazine since 1964. It depicts gorgeous women in bikinis on beautiful beaches. This year’s issue of the magazine definitely sends a message with three different covers! UFC stunner Ronda Rousey, Size 16 plus sized model Ashley Graham and model Hailey Clauson clad in beautiful bikinis—and body paint for Rousey—along with Sports Illustrated made headlines and history when the covers were revealed.

The modeling industry has always coveted the size 2, sometimes unhealthy image of a woman. In recent years a shift, although not major, has been happening. Plus-size women are being represented in a positive and celebrated way. Ashley Graham has broken a mold by being featured in last year’s issue in a bikini ad and this year by gracing the cover! Graham is a size 14-16 model signed to IMG Worldwide and Ford Models, two of the top modeling agencies in the world! She has been featured on covers and in ad campaigns for some of the biggest name brands in the world and was named to Forbes Magazine’s coveted “30 under 30” list in January 2016. Positive body image is an important topic and Ashley Graham is definitely a great role model for the cause.

Ronda Rousey, the first UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion, sat through a 14-hour body paint session to achieve her cover look. Rousey is representative of a different set of women, athletic and as she put it in a UFC Vlog series, “femininely, badass as —-.” Rousey has been an athlete since a young age. She was encouraged to take up judo by gold-medal winning judoka AnnMaria De Mars, who also happens to be her mother. In 2008, Rousey became the first American to win an Olympic medal in women’s judo since it had become an Olympic sport in 1992. She admits that she was made fun of and bullied in school for her athletic build but, after seeing this behind the scenes video of her shoot, it isn’t even possible to say her body is anything but beautiful.

Hailey Clauson, the gorgeous blonde in this Swimsuit Issue trio is a model who has been the face of a variety of well-known brands, walked the runway for designers like Calvin Klein and Elie Saab and is signed to agencies in multiple cities. Clauson, at 5’11 has legs for days and was a 2015 SI: Swimsuit rookie. There is no doubt, we will be seeing more of  Ms. Clauson on the runways and in the magazines. You can check out her thoughts and emotions on her cover shoot with Sports Illustrated here!

Congratulations to these beautiful ladies and what a blessing to be able to use this platform to aid in re-branding the definition of beauty in our society.

Best Dressed at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards

Billboard is a music popularity chart that spans across the entire music business. On Sunday, May 17, 2015 in Las Vegas, NV the 2015 Billboard Music Awards was aired. The show was hosted by John Legend’s stunning wife, Chrissy Tiegen,  and rapper/actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges.

The Billboard Awards were somewhat lack luster as far as entertainment goes and the same can be said for the fashion. A few great ensembles and the rest were just average. Here’s a look at some of my favorite looks from the night, in no particular order.

1. Zendaya in Fausto Puglisi 3-piece set

Zendaya is quickly becoming a regular on best dressed lists and it was no different at this years BMA’s. She stunned on the red carpet in a black, white and orange 3-piece Fausto Puglisi set. She brought the gorgeous bandeau, pant and blazer set to a higher level with a baby blue heel pairing.

2. Jennifer Lopez in Charbel Zoe

The Queen of nearly-naked gowns wowed us again on the red carpet last night. The sleeved, silver gown with strategically placed bead work showed off her amazing physique without being trashy.

3. Olivia Culpo in Elie Saab

The former Miss USA looked beautiful in a black beaded shorts romper. Culpo styled the romper with a thin black belt and gorgeous strappy heels.

4. Taylor Swift in Balmain

We all know I LIVE for an all white outfit and Taylor Swift’s stunning Balmain pantsuit is no exception. With tasteful cutouts and the trendy wide leg style, she absolutely stole the show. Even before she took home 8 awards!

Taraji P. Henson, star of the hit series Empire , turned some heads in her black Aleandre Vauthier cutout gown. She certainly filled the dress out much better than Miley Cyrus, who wore it early this year to the 2015 Grammys, and she exuded such confidence but, in my opinion the dress just isn’t that spectacular.

All in all, the BMA’s can be summed up like this: J.Lo never disappoints us in the fashion department, Chrissy Tiegen and Ludacris were okay hosts and Taylor Swift stole the show with her video premiere for “Bad Blood,” her fierce jumpsuit and her 8 award wins!

72nd Annual Golden Globes: Fashion Recap

This past week while I was watching the NFL Playoffs, I’m sure many of y’all were tuned into the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards.

For those who don’t know, the Golden Globe Awards are given to recognize those hard working Hollywood folks for excellence in film and television. While I enjoy award shows, I watch for the FASHION and the ladies on the red carpet looked amazing this year!

Kate Hudson in Versace

Now I LIVE for an amazing white gown so, I’m quite critical of any white dress I come across. Kate Hudson STUNNED in the figure hugging Versace ensemble with side cutouts and jeweled straps. She decided to go with sleek hair and no fuss makeup and the mother of two looked absolutely amazing. Best Dressed. Hands down.

Lorde in Narciso Rodriguez

Lorde is a funky, cool kinda girl so, her custom suit and crop top was almost predictable but, nonetheless gorgeous. She opted for less dramatic makeup and even pulled out the red lipstick paired with beautiful Neil Lane diamonds, she definitely earns a spot on the best dressed list.

Kate Beckinsale in Elie Saab Couture

Kate, a presenter for the night, wowed in a sparkly Elie Saab Fall 2013 Couture Collection piece. The sparkly bodice with flowing skirt was complimented by a high bun and beautifully minimal makeup. It’s a gorgeous dress but, the styling and Kate’s gorgeous smile is what earned her a spot on the best dressed list.

As many stunning ensembles as there were on the red carpet, there were also some tragedies. I will not highlight them all but, one gown stood out to me. Keira Knightley in Chanel. When Knightley spoke to Ryan Seacrest, she was quoted saying, “Apparently, it took 30 people to make this dress in a week.” Now, for a dress by Chanel, made by 30 people in a week, how is this an acceptable finished product? The floor length dress has layers of white lace around the hem and the neckline and the middle of the dress is printed with butterflies and bugs. Being pregnant is not an excuse to wear this dress out in public. Try again.

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 22 Auditions!

This past weekend, I went to the America’s Next Top Model audition at Pentagon City Mall in Alexandria, VA.

For those who don’t know, America’s Next Top Model is a hit show created by Supermodel Tyra Banks. Every season auditions are held all over the country, video submissions are reviewed and a set number of females, and in recent seasons males, are chosen to stay in a house and compete for a package of amazing prizes. The various fabulous rewards include a modeling contract with a top modeling agency and a cover spread.

The audition consisted of a photo, a question and answer segment and a runway walk! I networked and WORKED the catwalk like only I can so, the audition was a successful experience and now I’m entering a contest and I need your help!

Click here and vote for your favorite ANTM contestant, aka ME, to win! My contestant number is 121 🙂

Thank y’all for the continued support, you don’t know how much it means to me 🙂
